The Electrocardiogram in Hyperthyroidism

Abstract
|
|
|
Author made a comparative study on the electrocardiograms of 150 thyrotoxicosis patients with normal control group.
The result author observed was as follows:
I. Sinus tachycardia was observed in 75 cases (50%).
2. The mean amplitude of P waves was significantly elevated comparing with control group, and 44 cases (29. 3%) had P wave more than 3mm in amplitude.
3. P-R interval, Duration of Q1 S complex and Q-T interval were significantly altered and significant ST-T change was observed in 26 cases (17%).
4. Left ventricular hypertrophy was observed in 62 cases (41.5%) and other abnormalities include atrial fibrillation in 4 cases, ventricular ectopic beats in 6 cases, right ventricular hypertrophy in 6 cases, right bundle branch block in 6 cases and first degree A-V block in 3 cases.
5. There was no significant relationship between the duration of the disease or the degree of I181 up-take and all the electrocardiographic changes except for likelihood of left ventricular hypertrophy.
